"The City Center Studios aren't glamorous, but Miro Magloire's concerts, complete with live, wondrously sophisticated music, can make you forget your surroundings; the man has his priorities straight."
Claudia LaRocco, The New York Times, March 27, 2009

Miro Magloire's elegant New Chamber Ballet will close its 2008-09 season with performances of ballets by Magloire, including two premieres, and company member Lauren Toole, June 19 & 20 in City Center Studio 5, 130 West 56 Street.

Company dancer Lauren Toole, formerly with NYCB and Los Angeles Ballet, made a very successful choreographic debut two seasons ago with her quartet Cascade, set to Paul Hindemith's Sonata for violin and piano.

Receiving their World Premieres are two, as yet untitled, dances by Magloire, both set to music by Salvatore Sciarrino, composer born in Palermo in 1947. Sciarrino began composing at the age of twelve, even before the start of his formal musical schooling. The prolific composer can be heard on more than 80 CDs, issued on major international labels, has taught at the conservatories of Milan, Perugia, and Florence, and is currently a resident of Umbria.

A trio of women - Elizabeth, Emily, and Madeline - will appear in the new Untitled New Ballet #1. According to choreographer Magloire, the trio's energy and attack can best be described by the composer's own musical indication, "Furioso", in his Piano Sonata No. 2.

Untitled New Ballet #2 is a solo for Lauren Toole, set to two of Sciarrino's Caprices for solo violin. Violinist Miranda Cuckson will perform on the stage area, her quiet sounds in stark contrast to the wildly virtuosic Piano Sonata. The dancer will move very near to the musician, echoing her soft sounds with small, quick movements.

The program will be completed by Magloire's Echoes, a quintet to Anton Webern's Four Pieces for piano and violin, op. 7.

New Chamber Ballet welcomes back Amy Brandt, who performed with the Company in 2006. Amy is a former member of the Milwaukee Ballet and the Suzanne Farrell Ballet. She is currently a freelance dancer and a writer for Pointe Magazine. Alan Alberto is a new resident of NYC, having danced most recently with the Nashville Ballet. Alberto studied at the Harid Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida and at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Guest violinist Miranda Cuckson, soloist with symphony orchestras around the world, was praised as "a brilliant young performer who plays daunting contemporary music with insight, honesty, and temperament." (Anthony Tommasini, The New York Times, Dec. 27, 2007)

New Chamber Ballet looks forward to August 14 & 15 performances in Bermuda; then returns home for its 2009-2010 season opening with September 11 & 12 performances at City Center Studio 4.
