Denise Small trained in her native Philadelphia with Scott Jovovich and on scholarship at the Rock School of Pennsylvania Ballet. She danced with Kansas City Ballet and Pennsylvania Ballet, including an appearance at the Kennedy Center Balanchine Festival, and appeared as a guest with the Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and the Phrenic New Ballet of Philadelphia. In New york, she appeared with Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company in its inaugural City Center Season, and with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in numerous productions. She is a founding member of New Chamber Ballet, where she created roles in numerous ballets including Night, Valses, Preludes, Fall, Life, Round, Silk, Terzetto, Night is Falling, Mostly Soft, Adue, Viduity, Reflections I and Silent Shadows. She took a leave from the company in the spring of 2008 to pursue a college education.
